The paperwork you need to enter Mozambique and the process you must go through when you are in the country vaires depending upon the passport that you use to enter the country and the reason for your visit. The rules and processes also change over time. This and asscociated articles are kept up to date as the rules and regulations change. Ensure you read the articles carefully here when you book your travel. And check them again just before travelling to check for changes.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements depend on the passport you use to enter the country and the reason for entering. I will break these down below.

Entering for tourism and family visits

This is for anyone coming on holiday or visiting friends and family in the country.

Ponta Do Ouro beach

Details of the countries this includes can be seen here.

Citizens of this country have long standing visa-free (warning visa-free is used in two contexts with Mozambican entry, I will call this one SADC visa free) entry into the country. You can get full details about this here

This includes a range of countries across the world including the US, UK and many (but not all) EU and other European countries. The full list of countries included can be found here.

If you have a passport from a country on this list then there is currently a slight confusion about the best way to enter, visa-free (but not SADC visa-free as above) or ETA. The article here explains the two different processes and the pros and cons of each.

Visa-free is a simple process whereby you simply pay $10 on arrival and show some simple paperwork.  ETA is a more complex and costly pre-approval process.

eVisa entry is for people with passports from a country that is

  1. Not on the SADC and other selectred African Countries list
  2. Not on the Visa-free or ETA country list
  3. Not on the eVisa Exempt list

If the country of your passport is not on any of these lists, then the eVisa process is for you. It is an online portal where you can apply for your visa. This must be completed and approved before you travel.

There is a small list of countries that are banned from using the eVisa process. They must go, in person to the Mozambican embassy in their country to apply for a visa. You can find the list of countries and the details of this process here

Entering for Business

This is for anyone coming to conduct business, but not work in Mozambique. This may be to take part in meetings, attend conferences or other business activities.

Details of the countries this includes can be seen here.

If you have a passport from one of the countries listed above, you can enter Mozambique simply for 30 days with no need to pre-apply. You can get full details about this here
